The four-cylinder engine

The four-cylinder engines established on cars Audi 100, have the pig-iron block of cylinders with the head of the block cast from an aluminium alloy. In a block head the camshaft which is resulted by a gear belt from a cranked shaft is located. The same belt results an intermediate shaft which in turn is a drive for the distributor of ignition, oil and fuel pumps.

Cranked shaft – steel shod five-basic. Average radical bearings can be with the flanges playing a role of persistent rings, or without flanges, but with persistent rings. Pistons are cast from an aluminium alloy with steel inserts. On the piston two are established compression and one scraper rings.

Valves are put in action from a camshaft through pushers, and since September, 1985 establish hydraulic pushers. Directing plugs of valves are made of a special brass and pressed in a head of the block of cylinders.

The engine is equipped gear by the oil pump established in crankcase, and full flow the oil filter on a left-hand side of the block of cylinders.
